                   1/27 answering the following question:   Weeks argues that "the invention of 
                  sexuality was not a single event, now lost in a distant past.  It is a continuing

                 change, and its subject."  What do you think he means by this and what 
                 connections might this statement have to Audre Lorde's poem?  Support your 
                 argument with evidence from both texts as well as

  •        Read "The U.S. Should Apologize to Gay People" (see week 4 folder of Ulearn)
                 2/3 answer the following questions:  How could one use information presented 
                 in this piece as evidence of heteropatriarchy's goal of using social institutions 
                 to erase gay/queer identity, experience, and history? Do you find the author's 
                argument convincing, why or why not?  Was there evidence presented that you 
               found to be less convincing?  Social institutions = government/law, family, 
              religious institutions, educational institutions, and media.  Lastly, does this 
              article provide you greater insight into some of the literary texts/films we've 
              discussed so far?  Explain and include at least one example from a literary text. 
              You must include a minimum of one quote from the article and a minimum of one
              quote from a literary text or film (Kenan, Proulx, Bidart, Lorde, or Undertow).  
              Clearly explain  your position and support your argument with evidence.
